Yesterday’s Cody Today
…a bridge from past to present

Establish a museum to collect, preserve and display the history of the Cody area thereby
creating and nurturing public interest in the past.

Letter from the President & Director

Dear Friend,

The Cody Heritage Museum began as a long-time dream of the Park County Historical Society. Many of the Society’s members are descendants of the earliest residents of Cody and are eager to share their inheritance of memorabilia with the community, as well as the many visitors that Cody entertains each year.

A committee was formed, and has been working for over three years, with the goal of creating a local museum. While it is a fact that Cody already has an excellent facility in the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, that institution does not focus on the history of the Cody area.

The Park County Commissioners have agreed to allow the Cody Heritage Museum Board to raise funds to renovate the DeMaris building as the venue for this museum. We began renovating the building in 2011 and to-date, we have a new roof, new doors, new windows and a new foundation, as well as, the bricks repointed.  The interior will be entirely framed with new floors laid and a complete remodel.  By mid-May, 2016, the building will house our office on the second floor.

Cody and its surrounding area has a rich heritage of rodeos, working cattle and sheep ranches, dude ranches, oil and gas exploration, artists, and the close proximity of and association with Yellowstone National Park. We hope you will share in our enthusiasm and support for an idea long past its due time to appear in our community.
